Sener celebrates the tenth anniversary of its office in Colombia

This year, Sener celebrates the tenth anniversary of its permanent presence in Colombia, since it began operating in 2013 through its local subsidiary. However, the group has a long history in that country: Sener’s relationship with Colombia began in 1966, when it undertook the design of the “Gloria” training ship for the Colombian Navy.

Since then, Sener has put the most advanced technological solutions at the service of private companies and public organizations in the country. In these 10 years, Sener has undertaken notable projects, mainly in the mobility industry.

Among them, the conceptual design of the Bogotá Metro network stands out; the audit of the comprehensive structuring of Line 1, currently under construction; the design of a section of the highway that will connect Bogotá with the Caribbean; the design of the control center of the El Dorado Airport in Bogotá – from where all air navigation in Colombia is managed; the design and implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems for the Line Tunnel at the crossing of the Central Mountain Range and for sections of the Highway that will connect Medellín with the Caribbean. Likewise, Sener has also developed energy projects in Colombia, such as the conceptual design of the Pacific Regasification Plant.

These projects have been possible thanks to its extensive knowledge of the sector, in which Sener has contributed to the development of more than 18,500 kilometers of railways and roads, 70 transport systems and 810 infrastructures around the world. The company takes advantage of transversal knowledge in diverse areas to offer the most advanced technological solutions that allow its clients to comprehensively address the most complex challenges.

Extensive knowledge of the regional market

Sener has led and participated in the design and development of high added value engineering projects from the Colombia office as well as from other South American countries. For example, in Brazil, it has been responsible for line 6 of the São Paulo metro, the Salvador de Bahía monorail, the Itaparica bridge or the Portocem thermoelectric plants (one of the largest in the region), GNA-I and GNA-II.

Likewise, it carried out the modernization of the icebreaker Almirante Irizar, operated by the Argentine Navy, and the Peruvian training ship BAP Unión (at the time, the most important training ship in all of Latin America and the second largest in the world). Also in Peru, planning work has been carried out for the Port of Callao, the most important in the country, and participation has been made in several co-financed private initiatives for Wastewater Treatment Plants.

In Chile, several studies and designs have been carried out for the railway connection of the Port of San Antonio and the country’s capital, Santiago de Chile, as well as the design of the expansion of this important Pacific port and design work for the Metro from Santiago.

These and other projects exemplify the group’s experience in the different markets in which it currently operates (Aerospace and Defense, Energy, Mobility, Advanced Installations and Data Centers, Digital and Marine, in addition to promoting, through industrial participations, companies in the renewable energy sector), with more than 3,000 professionals on five continents.
