    Ship owner services

    We take advantage of all our capabilities with a view to achieving innovative and top-class results for the marine industry.

    Our services don’t stop after delivery of the ship to the ship owner and once it is in operation. In the verification phase of the design and construction process, we support our clients, thereby ensuring that the best marine construction practices and the most innovative and efficient solutions available have been applied.

    We add value through the knowledge and experience we have acquired over the more than sixty years we have been working in the marine industry. That is why we go to great lengths to understand the needs and specific capabilities of each ship owner. This is our way of guaranteeing the expected outcomes and gaining a strong competitive advantage.

    Preliminary ship design

    We help the ship owner to achieve their objectives right from the outset of the project. Our experience results in time and cost savings by accelerating a satisfactory shaping of requirements, avoiding design iterations to come up with a technically and economically optimal solution. This results in a good tender from the shipyard.

    Repair, conversion and alteration studies

    We conduct all types of studies and analyses to repair, convert and transform ships whether partially – for example, fuel changes or capacity increases – or whole ships.

    Maintenance services

    We provide ship owners with fleet maintenance analyses, as well as support in the event of possible breakdowns. We offer everything from predictive analysis to load surveys, etc.

    Ship owner inspections

    We provide ship owners with inspection services throughout the shipbuilding process. Therefore, the ship owner is assured that the construction complies with the strictest marine construction standards, that it is guided by the ship’s basic engineering information and that the ship’s engineering and construction process seeks to minimize the financial investment, avoiding additional cost overruns.

    Preliminary ship design

    We accompany shipyards to draw up the commercial tender, developing a technical specification of the ship sought, based on the set of requirements required by the ship owner.

    The first technical contact between shipyard and ship owner serves as a starting point for the conceptual design of the ship. At Sener, unless the ship owner has a very clear idea about the type of ship they want, we offer a consultancy service for the conceptual stage of the tender.

    Our experience and efficiency give us in-depth knowledge of shipyards and the types of ships they specialize in, providing added value in the consultancy services in preliminary projects to ship owners. Our goal is to achieve the utmost precision in the quote submitted to the ship owner.

    Ship design

    We carry out conceptual, contractual, classification, basic, detail and production engineering for shipbuilding. We do so guided by our vocation for innovation, paying attention to every last detail, to comply with shipyard requirements and regulations in dozens of countries.

    Conceptual and contractual engineering

    Ship design is an iterative process, especially in its early stages. In its conceptual phase, we help the shipyard to establish the ship that the shipowner wants. To do so, we present design suggestions that are analysed and confirmed throughout the other engineering phases. Finally, we help the ship owner to develop the ship according to their needs and to find the best shipyard to bring their project to life.

    Contract engineering is the engineering attached to the shipbuilding contract between the shipyard and the ship owner. It usually includes the general provisions and the technical construction specifications. At Sener, we assist the shipyard in drawing up the contract documents to the extent possible. The more detailed the contract documents are, the less uncertainty there is vis-à-vis the project and therefore the lower the risks

    Classification and basic engineering

    We conduct the basic engineering of the ship for the shipyard: structure, equipment, systems, safety and electricity, in accordance with all the rules and regulations of the corresponding authorities and the selected Classification Society. We develop the entire project in compliance with high-quality and environmentally friendly criteria.

    We handle the management of the approval of plans and documents by the authorities and Classification Societies, communicating directly with these bodies and liaising with them with regard to the best solutions to comply with the standards, in the most advantageous way for the efficiency and sustainability of the project.

    Detail engineering and production

    We have created a 3D model with different design software from the drawings and reports drawn up in the classification engineering phase, already duly approved by the ship owner, the classification society and the relevant authorities.

    In this model, we introduce the entire structure, equipment, piping, auxiliary structures and wiring, including the support and the framing, with the aim of making it easier for the shipyard to extract information for construction.

    From the information contained in the 3D model database, we draw up the necessary plans for the construction and assembly of each and every one of the elements of the ship’s structure, piping, equipment and accessories. In this way, we optimize the construction in terms of price and time while, at the same time, complying with the shipyard’s construction strategy, regulations and standards.

    In-service ship studies

    We analyse in-service ships with a view to improving their performance, increase their capacities or modifying the type of service the ship is to be used for, among other purposes.

    Depending on the ship owner’s requirements, we assist the shipyard in finding the best option to meet the demands of the aforementioned requirements.

    Modifications, conversions and transformations

    We design adaptations to ship designs to comply with new circumstances and regulations, or to improve their capabilities and efficiency. We specialize in a diverse portfolio of modifications, including:

    • Changes to fuel type (MDO_LNG, ammonia, methanol, hydrogen), to come up with the best location for new tanks without the ship losing functionality.
    • Demand-driven conversions of gas carrier ships to FSRU or FSU.
    • Changes in ship service: platform support ships to fishing vessel, ro-ro to bunkering ships, etc.
    • Increases in cargo or passenger capacities.
    • New port power supply installations (cold ironing), based on green energy and energy efficiency.
