    A GREEN FUTURE

    Just like you, we believe in a green future; the marine industry is already a leading player in terms of sustainability. Thanks to our experience and extensive market knowledge, at Sener we are playing our part in reducing the environmental impact of the industry, by innovating using state-of-the-art technologies. To achieve this, we use hydrogen and natural gas as fuels in our prototypes. This is how we see the navigation of tomorrow.

    Market research

    We keep our ear to the ground. We take an in-depth look at the current state of the marine market, as well as its near future potential, to:

    • Comprehensively analyse opportunities and trends in the global ship market.
    • Offer all stakeholders: ship owners, shipyards, freight operators, among others, an analysis of the existing fleet, in accordance with the characteristics of the environment, geographical locations, viability and potential markets.
    • Analyse business investment and weigh up alternatives whether through purchases, chartering viable ships or designing new ones.

     

    LNG Bunkering with Naturgy

    By way of example, we highlight the LNG on Wheels project for Naturgy in which we conducted a fleet analysis to transform an existing ship into a prototype LNG bunkering ship design that did not exist beforehand. It comprises an LNG tanker-truck ship capable of refuelling from a small off-shore carrier and furthermore, LNG bunkering to vessels powered by dual-fuel LNG engines. Once in port, the liquefied natural gas is distributed directly via tanker trucks. An innovative study on the development of new optimized solutions where LNG is fostered as an alternative fuel.

    Prototypes

    We conceptualize and design innovative prototypes, geared towards both future manufacturing and meeting the ship owner’s specific needs while in operation. We convert the ship owner’s original ideas into real products and we analyse the viability thereof by striving for efficiency, differentiation and high quality design.

    As they are such innovative designs, they are not subject to the usual regulations. For this reason, we seek the initial approval from one or more classification societies, taking into account the developments in documentation and risk analysis with a view to ensuring that the prototype is safe and non-polluting.

    Our prototypes are energy efficient, to reduce the environmental impact and reduce ship fuel consumption, which, in the maritime market, leads to a commitment to green fuels such as LNG, hydrogen or ammonia.

    Our prototypes include:

    • Ships with hydrogen stations for application in power generation which, among other options, use our hydrogen reformer.
    • LNG bunkering ships, with optimized designs with reduced CAPEX.
    • Conversions from Ro-Ro to LNG bunkering ships
    • Conversions of emission control machinery and installations on all types of ships to comply with the emission reduction measures required by IMO set forth in its “Fit for 55”.

     

     

    R&D&i and sustainability

    We are at the forefront of green energy technology and research geared towards on-board energy efficiency.

    Within the framework of our R&D&i investments, we develop a number of prototypes of ships that are trailblazers in the market. The shipyard can benefit from this analysis and knowledge. So, if a new ship prototype is sought, we can provide our design expertise through cost-effective, efficient and high-quality solutions for complex projects.

    Among the challenges facing our industry, we highlight our passion for technology and for contributing to protecting the environment. We are proud to have a long list of projects in which we advocate the use of natural gas and hydrogen as efficient and sustainable energy sources that comply with the new IMO (International Maritime Organization) requirements.
