Plaque of Honour in Engineering awarded by the Spanish Association of Scientists.
The Aerospace Technology Prize was awarded to Sener by INTA (National Institute for Aerospace Technology) during the first edition of their technological innovation awards, acknowledging Sener’s contributions to the aerospace sector.
Third Prize in Environmental Innovation in Europe 2003, awarded by the European Association of Environmental Publications, for Sener’s waste oil regeneration process.
Third Millennium Prize for Public Works, awarded to Sener by the Academy of Sciences, Technology, Education and Humanities.
The 1st Prize for Innovation in Agricultural Technology (PITA), awarded by the Catalan Government, went to Tractaments de Juneda, S.A. (TRACJUSA) for its innovative management of pig manure processing operations.
2003 Award for the Best Company Related to the Shipbuilding Industry, given by the Association of Naval and Oceanographic Engineers of Spain in recognition of the company’s track record, since its foundation, in the shipbuilding industry.
Ingenia Prize 2004, awarded by the Bilbao School of Engineering Foundation to Enrique de Sendagorta, founder of Sener, in recognition of his professional career.
The CEAS Award 2004 was bestowed upon Álvaro Azcárraga by the Confederation of European Aerospace Societies (CEAS) for his distinguished professional career. At the time, he was the Director of Sener’s Aerospace and Systems Department, and he is currently a consultant for SENER.
Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Innovation 2006, given by Ernst&Young, in collaboration with IESE Business School, the Vocento Group and Fortis, to Jorge Sendagorta, President of Sener.
The Made in Euskadi Prize 2006 awarded by the Basque Business and Communication Foundation to SENER in recognition of the company’s work on the international market over its 50-year history.
Best of European Business 2007, in the Growth (Medium-Sized Enterprises) category, awarded by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants and supported by the TV channel CNN with the collaboration of IESE Business School, in recognition of companies that have helped to further European competitiveness in accordance with the Lisbon Agenda.
Energy Global Award for Energy Efficiency given to the Andasol Project. These awards honour environmental initiatives and programmes that boost energy efficiency on a local level.
The 2008 Light Rail Award for Best New System was bestowed upon the Porto metro project by the International Union of Public Transport (UITP). The awards criteria included innovation, project conception and design, excellence in execution, and the positive, tangible impact on citizens’ lives.
Prince Philip of Spain Award for Business Excellence, in the category of Technological Innovation for Large Companies, awarded by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce.
Revit BIM Experience award given by Autodesk in recognition of the good use of the Revit Architecture solution for BIM, as well as other BIM solutions such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk Inventor. The award recognizes the perfect integration of the Revit Structure solution, as well as the use of Autodesk 3ds Max for visualization.
The Miguel Pardo Prize 2009 in the Technology and Innovation category awarded by the Spanish Maritime Cluster (CME).
Prize for the Best Public Work awarded by the College of Civil Engineers for the Sol Station Project.
Prize for Innovation awarded by the Spanish College of Naval and Ocean Engineers in the Companies category.
Special mention from the Balearic Islands Port Authority for the proposal presented by Sener in the call for ideas for the maritime station and spatial planning of areas annexed to the Cos Nou at the Port of Maó (Menorca).
‘Deal of the Year 2009’ award in the ‘Clean Technology’ renewable energy category for the funding obtained by Torresol Energy to build the Valle 1 and Valle 2 plants. This award is one of the ‘Project Finance Deal of the Year’ awards given by the Euromoney agency, Europe’s most important awards in the area of structured financing.
Torresol Energy won the CSP Today Award in the ‘Thermosolar Innovation’ category at the first CSP Today Awards.
University of Almeria’s Consejo Social Award for Furthering Public-University Research, awarded to the Gemasolar plant owned by Torresol Energy and developed by Sener, in the category of Honourable Award for Companies and Institutes that have made a special contribution to research conducted with the University of Almeria.
The COAVN Prize for Architecture 2010 awarded by the Basque-Navarre College of Architects to the San Roque Redevelopment project in the Urban Design and Landscaping category.
Medal of Professional Merit awarded by the College of Civil Engineers to Eduardo Serrano, General Manager of the Sener’s Purchasing and Construction Division.
US CSP Today Award, in the Best Increased Dispatchability Solution, for the molten salts storage system which allows plants with Sener technology to continue to produce power without sun, either at night or during periods of very weak sunlight.
The San Benito de Alcántara Foundation awarded the Puente de Alcántara International Prize to the viaduct over the Contreras Reservoir, which forms part of the contract for planning and technical support to the site management of the Minglanilla – Villargordo del Cabriel section of the Madrid – Castilla La Mancha – Comunidad Valenciana – Murcia region high-speed line provided to Adif by Sener – GESTEC.
The Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Navigation (Spain), via its Plenary of the Corporation, has bestowed the “Makila of Honour 2010” upon Sener for its significant contributions to the objectives championed by the Chamber. Specifically, Sener’s innovative efforts in the naval sector, particularly through the development of its CAD/CAE/CAM software, the FORAN System, for the design and construction of ships and oceanic artifacts, were recognized.
The Hemendik prize in the Innovation category, awarded by the Deia newspaper in recognition of Sener’s track record since it was set up in Bilbao in 1956, characterized by the search for efficient and innovative technology solutions.
‘Outstanding Space Endeavours’ Award given by the French Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics for the Herschel and Planck satellites, a Sener project.

Honourable Mention at the Agustín de Betancourt awards for the Best Work of Civil Engineering, awarded by the Canary Islands division of the College of Civil Engineers, for Lines 1 and 2 of the Tenerife Light Metro, a Sener project.
Best Basque Business Leader, awarded to Jorge Sendagorta, President of Sener, by the Basque Business and Society Foundation. This award recognizes his 25 years of leadership, throughout which he has combined ‘tradition and modernity, in other words technology and innovation, while still remaining faithful to the company’s history and providing the diversification and internationalization demanded by an increasingly global economy’.

In the European Business Awards, Sener clinched the final prize in the Innovation category, surpassing nine other notable European companies with its Gemasolar project, which is recognized as the most innovative commercially operational solar plant worldwide. Sener was responsible for all technological innovations, engineering, and also led the construction, commissioning, and commencement of commercial operations at the facility.
Jorge Sendagorta, one of the ten finalists for the European CEO’ Award at the European CEO Awards, given by the British association ACE, which is made up of more than 650 companies in the UK’s engineering and consultancy industry.
The ‘Leading to Grow’ prize was awarded to Jorge Sendagorta by the Spanish Federation of Directors and Executives (CEDE), in recognition of Sener’s continuous investment in innovation and development.
US CSP Today Award in the Engineering Firm of the Year category for innovations developed at Gemasolar, the world’s first commercial-scale concentrated solar power plant that uses central tower technology with a molten salt receiver and heat storage system.
National Prize for Achievement in Innovation awarded to Enrique de Sendagorta Aramburu, founder and Honorary President of Sener.
Construmat Award in the ‘Civil Engineering’ category awarded by the Institute of Construction Technology of Catalonia to the Levante High-Speed Line in the Embalse de Contreras-Villargordo del Cabriel section in Valencia. In this section of the line, SENER was responsible for planning and managing work on the high-speed platform of the Madrid-Levante line.
Sener received the European Business Award for the Environment in the Basque Section, specifically in the Process for Sustainable Development category, for the Gemasolar project. This award was given by Ihobe, a public sector Waste Management Company under the Basque Government’s Department for the Environment, Land Planning, Agriculture, and Fishing.
NTE-SENER, a Sener Company, was given the Group Achievement Award from the European Space Agency (ESA) for its contribution to the Increment 25 & 26 missions.
European Business Award for the Environment Spanish Section in the Process for Sustainable Development category, for the Gemasolar plant. Prize awarded by Fundación Entorno – BCSD España.
Liquefied Natural Gas Project of the Year awarded by the European Gas Conference to the Gate Terminal regasification plant (Holland).
Best Project of the Year awarded by the European Construction Institute (ECI), one of the most important awards in the European construction industry.
Gate Terminal was a finalist in the Megaproject category of the Project Excellence Awards, organized by the International Project Management Association (IPMA).
Potencia Prize 2012 awarded to Sener in the Tunnels category for the section that links the Sants and La Sagrera high speed rail stations in Barcelona and that runs close to Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
AENOR award for energy efficiency accreditation for Zaragoza Airport, where Sener was responsible for the design and construction of the new terminal building.
Research and Development Prize awarded by the magazine Cambio Financiero in recognition of Sener’s continuous investment in research and development.

Silver Bioenergy Award for the company Tracjusa, given by ATEGRUS®, the Technical Association for Waste Management, Urban Sanitation and Environment, in recognition of the technological advances developed by Sener and Tracjusa in the treatment and reduction of pig manure in Juneda (Lérida, Spain).
The European Energy Awards prize for the Engineering Company of the Year, given by The European magazine. These awards recognize Sener’s solutions and products as ‘representing the cutting edge of innovation in a variety of sectors’.
Prize awarded to Sener by the Spanish Maritime Cluster in the Technology and Innovation category, for its work relating to the Spanish maritime industry.
The Oporto Metro project earned the Veronica Rudge Green Prize from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD) for its exemplary sustainable urban design. Sener, being one of the main companies involved, played a crucial role throughout the network’s implementation, providing technical support for both construction and the start-up phase.
The Golden Valve Award given by Intergraph to the Video ‘Simulation of Construction of a Chlorination Unit’, as part of the ‘New units and integration works at the Mexico petrochemical complex’, presented by the Pipes Section of Sener’s Industrial and Marine Division.
Investment of the Year Prize awarded by the Warsaw Business Journal (WBJ) for the opening of the Aerospace Department at Sener’s offices in Warsaw (Poland).
Merit Award in the Large Civil Engineering Projects category, awarded by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) to the Gemasolar project. These awards have honoured the best works of engineering in the world over the last 100 years, including Gemasolar, the only Spanish project chosen.
The Association of Female Business Leaders and Executives’ (AED) Business Award for Itziar Urrutia, for her professional career and her work as Director of the Bilbao Division of Sener.
Sener was a finalist at the European Rail Congress Awards in the Large Rail Station of the Year category for the Puerta del Sol intermodal station project in Madrid.
Aixe Getxo! Prize in the Culture of Innovation category This prize is given in recognition of Sener’s continued investment in innovation, to the point of making this value one of the cornerstones of its corporate strategy.

The Financial Director of the Sener group in 2014, José Ignacio Morales, was named as one of the 100 best financiers in Spain in the ranking published by Actualidad Económica.
The Award for Best Consulting Firm of 2014 went to the Brazilian consulting firm SETEPLA, wholly owned by Sener. This is an award given by the readers and subscribers of the Brazilian magazine Revista Ferroviária, one of the most prestigious professional publications in the country.
Cerdanyola Business Association’s Projection of the City Award in recognition of Sener’s contribution to the development of Cerdanyola del Vallès.
Honourable mention for Bilbao’s South Metropolitan Bypass (VSM by its Spanish acronym and better known as the Supersur) ‘a project developed by Sener’ at the Aqueduct of Segovia Awards given by the Spanish College of Civil Engineers (CICCP by its Spanish acronym).
MC Mutual Antonio Baró Prize for Occupational Health and Safety, awarded by MC MUTUAL to Sener.
Academiae Dilecta Prize awarded by the Royal Academy of Engineering to Sener, as a Spanish engineering and technology company that is leading the industry and driving the economy.
Prize for the Best Internationalization Strategy awarded by the Spanish logistics weekly El Vigía to Sener, for its increasing level of overseas operations since 1966.
Kingdom of Spain Business Achievement Award, given to Enrique de Sendagorta Aramburu, Honorary President and founder of the engineering and technology group Sener and President of the Sener Foundation by the Association of Business Leaders in Madrid (Círculo de Empresarios), the Economy Society in Catalonia (Cercle d’Economia) and the Association of Basque Business Leaders (Círculo de Empresarios Vascos). Presented by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, this award seeks to honour a lifetime of business achievement, illustrious in its job creation, innovation, internationalization and social cooperation.
The Spanish Institute of Engineering awarded an Honorary Member Medal to Enrique de Sendagorta Aramburu, Honorary President and founder of the engineering and technology group Sener and President of the Sener Foundation, for his contributions to the progress of society through his works and projects.
Jorge Sendagorta, President of Sener, was named Honorary Consul of Bilbao by the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, successor to the Bilbao Consulate.
Jorge Sendagorta, President of Sener, received the Bizkaia Sarean award in recognition of his professional achievements. This is one of the Bizkaia Sarean awards given out by the Association for Promotion of Biscay Business Network, BizkaiRed, which highlight the work of executives, companies and institutions in the Biscay province.
The 2014 Bioenergy Award went to the Valpuren Bañuelo manure treatment plant, which Sener ‘which has a 93% ownership stake’ designed and built and now operates. The Spanish Technical Association for Waste Management and Environment (ATEGRUS) gave the award to these facilities for their research into microalgae as a future energy source, a project Sener undertook in cooperation with the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM in its Spanish acronym).
Sener was a finalist for the British Geotechnical Association’s Fleming Award, as part of the consortium that executed the project ‘Barcelona, high speed train: protecting World Heritage Sites’.
The DESERTEC 2014 Award was bestowed upon the Gemasolar solar thermal plant, which was developed and is owned by Sener through its subsidiary Torresol Energy. The DESERTEC Foundation selected this project for its forward-thinking vision, innovative technology, and the potential to replicate this model in various regions worldwide, particularly in arid areas.
Torresol O&M, part of the Torresol Energy group (a company of which Sener owns 60%), was awarded the 2015 CSP Today Sevilla Award in the Increased Dispatchability Solution category.
Enrique de Sendagorta Aramburu, Honorary President and founder of the Engineering and Technology group Sener and President of the Sener Foundation, was named Honorary Member and Associate both of the College and of the Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers of Spain (AINE).
The “Personalidades de la Ría” lecture series honours José Manuel de Sendagorta (also known as Manu), co-founder of Sener, with a lecture on his life and work at the Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum.
José Antonio Llombart, CEO of EIPSA within the Sener group, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award by ALE, a multinational corporation known for its expertise in transporting and lifting heavy loads.
The new Fonte Nova football stadium, which benefited from Sener’s contributions, received the silver medal in the 2015 IAKS Awards for architecture in sports and recreational facilities. This accolade was given by the IAKS International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee.
The project for Line 1 of the Panama Metro, where the Sener engineering and technology group participated in every phase, has been awarded the Best Foreign Project at the eighth Annual Awards by the College of Road, Canal, and Port Engineers of Madrid.
José Rivacoba Urruela, commonly known as Txetxu Rivacoba, who was formerly the Head of the Structures and Mechanisms Section at the engineering and technology group Sener, was honored with a Laureate by the first plenary assembly of the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering.
The Bokpoort thermosolar plant, located in South Africa and built with the participation of the Sener engineering and technology group, has received the South African National Energy Association (SANEA) award for the ‘Best renewable energy project 2016’.
The Sener engineering and technology group received the 11th Masterinstal Award in the Energy Efficiency and Energy Management category, for a power cogeneration project.
The 2016 edition of the FIDIC Awards, presented by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, rewarded Sener’s work on the Panama metro project in the ‘Award of Merit’ category.
Hae-Jun Ji and his colleagues of the Marine Engineering and Oceanic Systems department from the Korean Ocean and Maritime University (KMOU) in Busan, for a project developed with FORAN, granted by the Society of Naval Engineers of Korea (SNAK).
The urban electric train project for the Guadalajara metropolitan area in Mexico, developed by Sener, has secured the runner-up position for the Best Project Abroad at the ninth edition of the Annual Awards hosted by the Madrid Association of Civil Engineers.
Ramón Varela, director of Sener’s Legal Counsel, was acknowledged as one of Spain’s top corporate lawyers in the Legal 500 CG Powerlist Iberia, encompassing both Spain and Portugal.
The Empalme I combined cycle power plant project, where Sener was involved, was honoured with the Mangrove Prize, given by Promotora Ambiental. This award acknowledges the project’s dedication and excellence in managerial, administrative, and operational efforts related to waste management and mitigating the environmental impacts of the construction.
The prestigious British publication The European awards Sener with the Best Infrastructure and Transport Company of 2017 award for the projects carried out in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region).
Sener has been recognized in the European Business Awards as one of the 125 most important companies in 2017 with its inclusion in the Ones to Watch List for Spain. This distinction recognizes the activity of Sener in terms of internationalization, innovation and business ethics.
In the annual ranking by ENR (Engineering News-Record) of the top 225 international design companies, Sener led in Africa and ranked third in Latin America.
Sener receives the “Employer recognition” award from Qatar University, recognizes the organizations that provide scholarships, sponsorships and job opportunities to Qatar University students.
Sener has received the FINE 2017 award in the “Outstanding Engineering Project” category for its FORAN marine design system. The Legal Department of Sener was honored with an award from Legal 500, the premier guide to law firms, recognizing it as one of the best in-house legal teams among Spanish companies.
The joint venture Sener-Babcock obtains the ‘Helicopters’ 2017’ prize from Avion Revue for the AB-212 helicopter modernization programme for the Spanish Navy.
Jorge Sendagorta, President of SENER, has been named an Honorary Member of the Coalition of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (COIN).
Sener was honoured with the Technological Revolution Award at the 2018 Vodafone Deia Innovation Sariak Awards by the Deia newspaper, acknowledging Sener’s longstanding tradition of innovation since its founding in 1956.
TOP Companies have awarded Sener in Mexico a prize for its internal policies implemented in boosting technological innovation throughout all projects. The trophy, called TOP Reward, certifies that for Sener innovation means “broadening horizons”.
Sener, in collaboration with ACCIONA and Kathu Solar Park RF PTY LTD, was awarded the “Best Sustainable Renewable Energy Project (10MW+)” for the Kathu Solar Park solar thermal power plant at the African Utility Week 2019 awards.
Sener Aerospace has received the “Best Improver” award in the “Equipment & Systems” category for the “extraordinary effort and dedication made to achieve the milestones foreseen in two important Airbus projects: Inmarsat-9 and METOP”.
AINE recognized Sener for what it considers “remarkable contributions in favour of our profession and sector,” citing several notable achievements. These include the engineering of the world’s first LNG bunkering unit (tugboat + pontoon) powered by liquefied natural gas; the development of prototype vessels and solutions in renewable energy; the application of FORAN in the most complex European naval engineering project of the 21st century, namely the “Dreadnought” ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) for the Royal Navy, as well as in Spain’s most technologically advanced marine projects; the creation of a new comprehensive digital solution for the maritime industry, known as shipyard 4.0; initiatives to foster excellence in the marine sector through scholarships for maritime engineering, naval architecture, and naval and ocean engineering Master’s students; and Sener’s involvement and partnerships with various institutions, organizations, and associations within Spain’s maritime sector.
Sener, in collaboration with Ten Architects, was awarded third place in the “Transportation (Built)” category for the stations of the Toluca-Mexico City intercity train.
Sener Aerospace received the ‘Honourable Mention in Delivery and Quality Excellence’ for its contributions to the One Web programme, an accolade presented at the Global Partnership Summit in the United States.
Sener Marine receives the Gold Medal from the Association of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers of Spain (AINE) at the 59th Naval Engineering and Maritime Industry Congress for the paper entitled “New technologies in ship design: machine learning, data analysis and artificial intelligence.” The paper was carried out by Jesús Angel Muñoz Herrero, PhD in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and naval architects Alicia Ramírez Gutiérrez and Silvia Santana Bayón, all of them from Sener’s Innovation Technology Unit.
Sener Marine representatives received a runner-up award for the paper “Application of virtual reality in immersive collaborative engineering environments” and the Special Prize for the Best Historical Presentation for the report on “The people who developed Naval Engineering in Spain. From Gaztañeta to Rechea Hernández” from the Association of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers of Spain (AINE) at the 59th Naval Engineering and Maritime Industry Congress.
The dual Marquesa tunnel, part of the Mexico-Toluca intercity train line, was selected as 2020 Project of the Year by Mexican magazine Expansión.
This project stands out as one of Sener’s key achievements in the railway sector. The completion of the tunnel was a significant milestone, involving the challenge of navigating through a mixed face and variable ground conditions, which included fault lines and zones with a high hydraulic pressure reaching up to 7 bar at the tunnel’s crown.
Sener won first place in the Architecture, Construction & Design Awards 2020 in the “Transportation (Built)” category for its work on the elevated stations of Line 3 of the Guadalajara metro (Mexico).
The Sener Group was selected by the London-based business magazine Capital Finance International (CFI.co) as the recipient of the Best European Corporate Governance Engineering Company 2021 award. This recognition is part of CFI.co’s annual awards, which honour individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to the convergence of economies, aiming to acknowledge excellence across the globe.
Airbus has awarded Sener Aeroespacial this prestigious recognition for its work as a key supplier in several satellites and programmes, highlighting the contribution in OneSat, a new paradigm in reconfigurable satellites, for which Sener Aeroespacial supplies several payload radiofrequency equipment.
Sener was a winner at the 7th edition of the iMm Managing Change Awards, which are organized annually by the Institute of Marketing and Management S.L. Sener received the iMm Award for the best company driving change in the family business category thanks to its innovative intelligent ventilation system RESPIRA®.
Jorge Sendagorta Gomendio, The Honourary President of the SENER Group, has received the Aster Lifetime Achievement Award from the ESIC Business & Marketing School, one of Spain’s leading marketing schools.
The Dublin Airport North Runway Project (NRCP2), where Sener partnered with Arup in the design phase, was honoured with the Engineering Endeavours of 2022 award by Engineers Ireland.
The JUICE mission was awarded in the aerospace category of PopSci’s “Best of What’s New” awards. Additionally, the Psyche mission was highlighted as one of the most innovative projects within the same category. Both missions feature significant contributions from Sener.
The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway project was awarded the “Project and Technology Awards 2023” by the International Association of Bridge and Structural Engineering in the “Innovation in Construction” category. It was also shortlisted for the “Large Road and Rail Bridges” category.
Sener’s Respira solution took home the top prize in the Enterprise category at the ABB Ability Awards, recognized for its social and business impact, the ability to replicate its model, its innovative approach, and its contribution to sustainable development, among other criteria.
Sener’s Energy Management System (EMS) took first place in the “Best Digitalization Initiative” category at the 2nd edition of the El Periódico de la Energía Awards. Additionally, Respira was a finalist in the “Best Energy Efficiency Initiative” category.
The Sener group received the “Catalonia Exponential Leaders” seal by ACCIÓ, a public agency for business competitiveness that is part of the Government of Catalonia, in recognition of its prominent role in the field of disruptive innovation.
The design and execution of the Cadiz Trambahía, in which Sener participated as project manager for a section of the line, has received the “Best Andalusian Public Works” award from the Association of Civil Engineers.

The Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Belgium and Luxembourg has selected Sener as the winner of the 10th edition of its “Company of the Year” awards, in recognition of its cutting-edge work in the aerospace and defense sector in these countries.
The project “AI for energy efficiency and guest comfort in the Iberostar Hotel Chain”, in which Sener has participated as a technology partner through the Respira solution, has been selected as one of the winning initiatives in the Smart Buildings category of the 12th edition of the enerTIC Awards.
The Caminos Foundation has awarded the work of Sener, Acciona and CFC in the development of the Cebu-Cordova cable-stayed bridge, in the Philippines.
The Sener Group has received the 22nd Business Collaboration Award from the Leonardo Torres Quevedo Foundation of the University of Cantabria in recognition of its contribution, as a collaborating company, to the development of a regional and national productive fabric and the training of highly qualified professionals.
The award was was given to the project for the technological development of green hydrogen generation using microwaves, a collaboration between Sener, the Universitat Politècnica de València, and the CSIC.
The European Space Agency has recognized Sener’s excellent performance in the EUCLID mission and has awarded a certification to the teams responsible for the AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control System) and LGA (Low Gain X-band Antennas).
