PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE FUTURE
We believe in the need to develop technologically advanced national capabilities so that our Armed Forces, in collaboration with their international allies, can guarantee the security of our society. We know that the future belongs to those who collaborate and establish partnerships, a conviction with which we participate in defense programs of vital importance for our environment. This is how we put our finishing touch -from design to maintenance- on our electromechanical systems, communications, navigation and special projects.
We design and mass-produce actuators to control aerodynamic surfaces in missiles and guided systems. Similarly, we develop deployment and locking mechanisms for structures and fins, and electromechanical stabilization and optical pointing systems.
With more than 25 years of experience, we are a recognized center of excellence in Europe in the design, development, production, integration, testing and logistical support of Attitude and Orbit Control Systems for the defense industry, having participated in the main European missile programs such as METEOR, RBS 70 NG, Iris-T AA, Iris-T SL and Taurus KEPD350.
With extensive mass production capabilities, we qualify and test our equipment in our own facilities, in addition to providing logistical support and technical assistance for the final testing and final assembly lines of our customers.
Our defense communications capabilities encompass all knowledge and products related to the design of microwave circuits and radio frequency (RF) equipment.
Specifically, we cover the design and production of assets, antennas and passive equipment, as well as complete radiocommunication systems —where various components typically executed in hardware— are implemented in software through the use of embedded computing elements (FPGA, ASIC or DSP).
This enables us to approach the development of end-to-end products in the areas of COMINT (Communications Intelligence), Data Link, active antennas and embedded software.
We have been investing in the development of COMINT (Communications Intelligence) technology, which allows us to further our level of responsibility in this type of project. Thus, our teams are demonstrating a high level of excellence and are capable of both integrating systems and of designing, manufacturing and supplying complete subsystems based on our own product.
The strategic vision of Sener Aeroespacial in this field can be summarized in the following pillars:
As a result of this strategy, we have successfully completed the industrialization of a monitoring and classification receiver. In receiving equipment, the SRX-VU family provides a complete solution for the detection, demodulation and classification of RF signals in V/UHF, as well as a wide range of configurable options and high scalability for future applications. Additionally, we develop direction finder modules compatible with SRX modules, which complement the COMINT capabilities of these products.
In 2020, we signed the contract for phase 2 of the SANTIAGO POD COMINT R&D project with Spain’s Ministry of Defense, through which Sener Aeroespacial designs and develops a high-performance Communications Intelligence (COMINT) demonstrator featuring national technology, it can be vehicle-mounted on a Eurodrone unmanned aerial system (RPAS). The system will include the Ground Operation Center (COT in its Spanish acronym) for mission control and the simulation of communications between the COT and the RPAS.
As part of a broader strategy to develop a national data transmission capacity, we lead the design of Data Link systems for command and control (C2) and for multiband tactical data transmission (PAYLOAD).
Currently, we are in the development and tender phase, initially for autonomous RPAS platforms such as SIRTAP, Eurodrone or FCAS, but with the goal of covering other air, naval and land applications.
Likewise, we are immersed in the development of a product line of SATCOM terminals based on high-gain antenna technologies and high-performance active antenna pointing mechanisms.
In the microwave and radiofrequency field, we develop and have comprehensive capabilities for the design, testing and production of components and the entire chain of passive and active RF equipment: antennas, monolithic integrated circuits (MMIC) and transmit and receive modules (TRM) based on state-of-the-art technologies, such as gallium nitride (GaN), as well as active equipment, both for signal reception and conversion and for signal transmission:
-Filters and multiplexers.
-Accessories: power dividers, couplers, adapters and custom assemblies.
-Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPA).
-Low noise amplifiers, down converters and receivers for communications satellites.
We are prepared to be a relevant player in the new space communications programs, such as SPAINSAT NG for Spain’s Ministry of Defense. In this sense, we contribute through:
-K-band antenna pointing mechanisms.
-Global horn antennas.
-Amplifiers for active antennas.
-Updown converters.
NaviGround is the navigation system developed by Sener Aeroespacial with utilities for unmanned and manned vehicles. Its advantages include providing a precise navigation solution based on the fusion of data from different sensors such as GNSS, inertial sensors, camera, LiDAR and radar technology.
This system can operate in both structured and unstructured environments. It is also a modular and scalable solution, which can be easily adapted and integrated according to the characteristics of the platform.
Space and Robotics Experience
This system draws on our experience in space programs as varied and successful as the GNC/AOCS systems (guidance, navigation and control/orbit and attitude control) of the scientific satellites Herschel and Planck or those of the IXV and Space Rider space vehicles.
It also collects the knowledge acquired through projects designed in the field of robotics, such as the robot for laparoscopic surgery, the Dextrous Arm for the International Space Station (ISS), the Hector and Paris robots for cleaning mirrors at solar plants, and the development of autonomous vehicles in MUROC, SUGV and APOS-UE for the European Defense Agency (EDA).
Regarding autonomous navigation solutions, Sener Aeroespacial develops essential elements for applications in tracked and wheeled land platforms (from 11 kg to 40 Tn).
We carry out the design, development and implementation of autonomous navigation solutions for land vehicles, based on the fusion of geolocation data, obstacle recognition and other sensors that incorporate artificial intelligence modules.
Based on our Design Organization Approval (DOA) certification, we undertake complex aircraft retrofit and modernization programs, as we are responsible for the design, integration and certification of state-of-the-art systems, as well as critical system update projects.
In this sense, we make it possible to prolong the useful life of the devices, while adapting them to the operational needs of military and police forces. It is an efficient option for fleets, since we improve their performance at a much lower cost than that of replacing them with new models. A success story is the AB-212 helicopter Life Extension Program of the Spanish Navy.
We are a pioneer engineering company in the design of satellite technology and equipment for space exploration.
