GTC Secondary Mirror Drive System
The Secondary Mirror Drive System (M2DS) of the GTC consists of two main elements: a high-precision hexapode with field correction to drive a 1.2 m and 46 kg beryllium mirror.
The system is water-cooled, has integrated power and control electronics and heated external covers.

- Active alignment stage in 5 degrees of freedom with incremental accuracy of 1.5 μm in displacements and 0.5 μrad for rotation.
- Fast guiding for field corrections.
- Chopping motion up to 5 Hz for infrared observations with 0.02 μrad repeatability and jitter below 1 μrad.
