The Spanish Government approves the modernization of the Patriot defense system, in which Sener develops the new control section of the GEM-T missile for Raytheon

Sener will be Raytheon’s partner to contribute to European GEM-T missile development and production, thus reinforcing the Spanish industry role in designing and manufacturing of actuation and control system technologies.

The Spanish Government has approved this Tuesday, during the Council of Ministers, the modernization of the Patriot defense system, in which the engineering and technology industrial group Sener is developing for Raytheon the new control section of the GEM-T missile. This modernization is necessary to ensure the interoperability of the Spanish Armed Forces with those of its allied countries and to comply with the international commitments acquired by the country.

Raytheon, an RTX business (NYSE: RTX), awarded Sener a contract in April to develop the electro-mechanical control section of the Patriot® GEM-T missile. As a strategic industrial partner, Sener directly contributes to missile production in Europe in support of the recently awarded GEM-T contract by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, NSPA, for a quantity of up to 1,000 missiles for a coalition of nations, including Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Spain.

GEM-T, the Patriot Advanced Capability 2 (PAC-2) missile interceptor enhanced for defeating tactical ballistic missiles, is a primary effector for the combat-proven Patriot air and missile defence system. The world’s battle-proven air and missile defence system Patriot is relied upon by 19 countries – eight European nations, and Ukraine – for defence against cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and enemy drones and aircraft.

Raytheon is a leading provider of defense solutions. For more than 100 years, Raytheon has developed new technologies and enhanced existing capabilities in integrated air and missile defense, smart weapons, missiles, advanced sensors and radars, interceptors, space-based systems, hypersonics and missile defense across land, air, sea, and space.

Sener is a Spanish industrial engineering and technology private group with a demonstrated expertise in the design and production of missile actuation and control system technologies, having participated in the main European missile programs such as METEOR, RBS 70 NG, Iris-T AA, Iris-T SL and Taurus KEPD350, among others. Sener works with Raytheon’s engineering experts to co-develop the critical GEM-T missile control section component which they will then produce locally at its facilities in Tres Cantos (Madrid).

“We celebrate the decision to modernize the Patriot defense system and are proud to make our technological capabilities available to our Armed Forces and NATO allies. We once again thank Raytheon for the trust placed in Sener”, said Rafael Orbe, Defence General Director at Sener. “Our collaboration with Raytheon consolidates our role as an international center of excellence in the design and manufacturing of missile actuation and control systems.”
