Talent lovers

Leticia, Beatriz, Karolina, Sofía and Amada. Female engineers at Sener who share passion for science and technology, who carry out their professional careers at the highest level and who, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, tell us about their experiences in the workplace. All of them have helped, with their example, to make the presence of women visible in traditionally male sectors. They subscribe in first person to this year’s motto: “For an inclusive digital world: innovation and technology for gender equality“.

They and so many other women are succeeding in the digital and technological world and have already travelled a path that will be crucial for many girls and young women who will dedicate themselves to science, just as they took advantage of the advances achieved by past generations.

We interview them as part of our #SenerEqual Interviews.

Leticia Guerrero, Director of Organization and Business Processes

A Computer Engineer with an MBA from IE Business School, she is a restless and critical person. She loves going against the grain and always bringing about change in order to improve, progress and try to influence others. She thinks that it is essential to bring technology and digital education closer to all women and girls, so that they develop their digital skills and get closer to opportunities for growth and education.

• Her advice for future generations: “work hard, fight for your dreams and remember that everything we do leaves a mark”.
• The women who inspire her also surround her: her mother, her sister, her niece, her friends…

Beatriz Pérez, Director of Sener Aerospace in Poland

A Telecommunications Engineer, who has dedicated almost her entire professional life to space and defense. When she was studying for her degree, only 10% were women. Today, although that figure has changed, she acknowledges that there are still important steps to be taken for women, such as, for example, managing to separate personal and professional lives. For her, the most attractive thing about her profession is the practical sense that she applies to what she studied at the university. She finds it very motivating to see the results of her work in real life.

• “Education helps break clichés from the past like that of women who were not welcome in technical environments, intended only for men.”
• “To future generations I would say not to be afraid of overcoming new challenges every day. Each challenge is an opportunity to improve.”

Karolina Podulka, Project Engineer in the space sector

Karolina was interested in sciences since she was a child. To become an Engineer was a natural choice for her. She enjoys her job because it gives her the opportunity to take on many challenges and solve new problems. She appreciates the positive changes that have taken place in society in the last century and hopes that universal access to technology will support women who are fighting for equality today.

• “I don’t feel ready to give advice to future generations. I hope that in the future, the topic of gender equality will be something obvious and there will be no need to even discuss it.”
• “We women should support and cooperate with each other, not compete and compare.In this way, we can achieve much more.”

Sofía Ruiz, Electronic Systems Engineer and Product Manager

Sofía Ruiz is an Electronic Systems Engineer and Product Manager at Sener Aeroespacial. She previously worked in the automotive industry in the United Kingdom, where for many years she was the only woman in the office. Although her colleagues welcomed her perfectly, in meetings with external clients she tried to hide her femininity and blend in with the men. At first, she felt compelled to prove herself in every meeting. Not anymore, she has gained confidence, and now she runs into more women in the sector. She can now be herself without fear of being undervalued and without the pressure of having to prove herself to be better than the men. 50 years ago this was unthinkable, so she thinks that the effort that other generations have already made to get here must be valued.

• “I think that in Spain, for years and fortunately, women have the same rights as men and we are free to forge our own destiny.”
• “It is important to stay awake and present, and rely on technology to solve the challenges of the future, instead of becoming slaves to it.”

Amada Miravete, civil engineer

Amada Miravete, civil engineer at Sener, is focused in infraestructure international projects and loves working in the technology sector because of the innovation and creativity that it involves. She developes her career in a men`s world and thinks that in some sectors, like construction, women still face stereotypes and that`s why there are not many women on construction site.

• “The most important advice I would give to the future generations is than confidence matters.”
• “In this International Working Women’s Day I say to every women: Don’t let stereotypes run your life and listen to your heart.”
