Watch the launch of the European Space Agency’s Proba-3 on streaming

Watch the launch of the European Space Agency’s Proba-3 on streaming

28/11/2024

Follow the live launch of Proba-3, the European Space Agency (ESA) mission led by Spain through Sener that will demonstrate that formation flight between satellites is possible and will provide interesting scientific knowledge about the behaviour of the solar corona.

On December 4, join our streaming broadcast, through Sener’s YouTube channel, to experience the moments leading up to this milestone for the aerospace industry, a key technological demonstration for future space observation missions and scientific studies.

During the event, you will be able to learn about the mission first-hand, through the interventions of our experts from the mission control centre, in REDU (Belgium):

  • Diego Rodriguez, Space and Science Director at Sener.
  • Yann Scoarnec, Proba-3 Project Manager at Sener.
  • Sandra Mingot, Head of EU and Defence Programmes at Sener.
  • Erik Masure, President of Redwire Space Europe.
  • Akos Haasz, Proba-3 Project Manager, Redwire Space Europe.
  • Austin Jordan, VP, Marketing & Communications, Redwire Space Europe.

Don’t miss this milestone in the aerospace industry, in which two satellites will autonomously maintain an exact alignment of less than 1 millimetre apart at a distance of 150 metres, to generate up to 1,000 hours of artificial eclipses during the life of the mission. With Proba-3, Spain demonstrates its world leadership in guidance, navigation and control (GNC) systems, in an initiative that is the result of years of work and collaboration between 40 companies from 16 countries and institutions such as ESA, CDTI and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the Spanish Space Agency (AEE).

Follow the streaming on December 4, at 10:00 AM CET

Sener coordinates SAGaN, the international consortium that will develop next-generation space electronics

26/11/2024

SAGaN will develop advanced electronic components based on gallium nitride, which will offer better performance than traditional silicon-based components; this will allow the construction of lighter and more efficient spacecraft capable of withstanding extreme radiation conditions and vacuum-like pressures.

The Sener engineering and technology industrial group participates in the international SAGaN consortium, an acronym in English for gallium nitride transistor for space applications, whose objective is the development of next-generation electronic components for especially demanding space missions and applications.

Sener is the company responsible for coordinating this consortium, in which Semi Zabala, Imec and Disco Hi-Tec Europe GmbH collaborate as partners, and will also be in charge of manufacturing original equipment for spacecraft and instruments that use gallium nitride transistors.

SAGaN aims to develop high-voltage gallium nitride transistors, an essential innovation for creating more advanced and efficient electronic equipment for space missions. These transistors offer higher performance than traditional silicon-based components. Gallium nitride transistors will therefore enable lighter and more efficient spacecraft that can withstand the extreme conditions of space, including radiation and vacuum-like pressures.

The consortium partners have the experience needed to carry out all operations for creating 650 V gallium nitride transistors for space, from design and manufacturing to processing and testing. This ability to create a complete supply chain for this type of transistors will strengthen the continent’s competitiveness in the aerospace industry.

“SAGaN not only reinforces our commitment to innovation and excellence in the aerospace industry, but also has the potential to raise energy efficiency standards in space, reducing the load on power systems and increasing the lifetime of missions,” highlights Miguel Pérez, Power Electronics Coordinator at Sener.

This project has received funding from the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under the HORIZON-CL4-2021-SPACE-01-81 action: “Discrete power devices”.

Sener deploys Generative AI for the entire workforce

25/09/2024

Sener, leader in engineering and technology, has introduced generative artificial intelligence to improve the productivity, efficiency and quality of services among its 4,000 professionals worldwide.

With the help of AI Lab (a team created to promote the use of AI within Sener and presented in February this year), Sener is implementing the use of Generative AI in all areas and disciplines, with a clear objective: to improve the solutions it delivers to its customers, maximise the quality of its services and offer innovative and differentiating solutions.

The team at AI Lab has identified more than 200 use cases, and it has executed concept tests that have validated the success of applying Generative AI, by achieving major efficiencies and productivity improvements. All these improvements are being implemented into Sener’s projects, benefiting its customers by delivering disruptive solutions and services.

The assistant Microsoft Pilot Web is one of the tools that have been implemented, and an adoption project is currently being carried out for Microsoft Copilot 365.

Sener’s experience in AI

Sener has extensive experience in using artificial intelligence in its projects, in fields such as predictive AI, machine learning, NLP (natural language processing) reinforcement learning and artificial vision.

Sener is currently applying AI to various projects, seeking to offer its customers innovative solutions, such as developing an image analysis algorithm aimed at improving efficiency in areas such as autonomous navigation, energy efficiency, thermal comfort and air quality management, among others.

Sener climbs positions in ENR’s ranking of the world’s leading engineering firms

Sener climbs positions in ENR’s ranking of the world’s leading engineering firms

12/09/2024

The engineering and technology group, with nearly 4,000 professionals worldwide, appears in the ‘Top 225 International Design Firms’ and ‘Top 250 Global Contractors’ lists, in 49th (up 14 positions from the previous year) and 180th (up 13) positions, respectively.

For yet another year, the Sener Group is among the leading engineering, design and construction firms included in the ranking of the prestigious publication ENR (Engineering News-Record).

Specifically, Sener appears in the ‘Top 225 International Design Firms’ and ‘Top 250 Global Contractors’ lists, in 49th (up 14 positions from the previous year) and 180th (up 13) positions, respectively.

The rankings of ENR, an American publication founded in 1917, are a renowned voice in the engineering and construction industry worldwide. With this inclusion, ENR recognises Sener’s outstanding work over the past year, including major projects such as the design of the Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal, the first electric trolleybus corridor connecting Mexico City and the State of Mexico, the fourth LNG storage tank at Gate Terminal and the replacement of coal-fired plants in Germany with hydrogen-ready gas plants for EnBW.
