Naval Strike Missile (NSM). Control Actuator System (CAS)
Client: Kongsberg, AS
Country: Norway

SENER is the world”s only manufacturer of the fin actuator sub-system for the NSM (Naval Strike Missile).

The CAS of the NSM is a discrete actuating subsystem responsible for guiding the missile”s trajectory by moving the fins in response to the commands received from the navigation and guidance system. The CAS, and specifically its AIE (Actuator and Ignition Electronics) unit, is also responsible for initiating and sequencing different energy devices on the missile, as well as for starting the engine on the missile.

  • Main features of the NSM CAS:
  • Four discrete and independent actuators, or Torque Generators, to move the aerodynamic control surfaces.
  • Four fin anchoring devices.
  • Robust and independent electronic unit, or AIE (Actuator and Ignition Electronics), which includes power conversion, closed position loop, engine control, self-diagnosis, start and sequencing of energy devices and the missile”s engine.
  • Interconnecting wiring between AIE and Torque Generators.
  • High torque capacity.
  • Excellent positional accuracy.
  • Highly reliable.
