Green ammonia plant for Fortescue in Brazil

Fortescue Future Industries (FFI), one of the world’s leading green energy players and a top-ten company on the ASX, continues to advance its commitment to producing green hydrogen and green ammonia from 100% renewable sources.

In line with this strategy, the company is developing a large-scale green ammonia plant in the industrial area of Porto do Pecém (Brazil), located within an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in the municipalities of São Gonçalo do Amarante and Caucaia.

Sener is supporting the project as a key technology partner, delivering the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for all Outside Battery Limits (OSBL) infrastructure required for the seamless operation and integration of the hydrogen plant (1,200 MW) and the ammonia plant (with a nominal capacity of 2,700 metric tonnes per day – MTPD).

Sener’s scope

Sener will undertake the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for all OSBL infrastructure associated with FFI’s green hydrogen and ammonia facilities, covering the definition and integration of utilities and interface systems, as well as the design of a service corridor of over 10 kilometres for ammonia and water pipelines.

The scope also includes the engineering of the desalination plant, the seawater intake and outfall systems, the construction of ammonia storage in two 60,000 m³ tanks, and the adaptation of existing port infrastructure—both maritime and onshore. Sener will likewise prepare the capital expenditure (CAPEX) estimate for all OSBL facilities, with an accuracy of ±10%.
