Sustainability conceptual engineering for thermal use

Context

The customer had a challenge with CO2 emissions due to the large amount of natural gas demanded by its production processes. Its decarbonization targets were ambitious; it had to lay out a clear roadmap to reduce its CO2 emissions (Scope I) through cost-effective solutions to ensure the future of its operations.

Solution

With our strategic partners, we analysed the energy consumption of seven of the customer’s production plants in different countries. Following this analysis, a medium-term action plan was presented to transition the facilities to sustainable production by optimizing consumption and reducing the environmental impact.

7 manufacturing sites analysed,

with a specific plan designed for each site.

specific improvement actions identified to reduce CO2 emissions and increase energy savings.

from thermal consumption expected to be saved when the action plan ends in 2025.

Technical activities

Analysis of annual heat consumption.
Analysis of occasional heat consumption and simultaneous consumption throughout the year.
Search for improvements in thermal use for each process, thus helping to reduce natural gas consumption.
Analysis of process equipment to identify which can be replaced by non-CO2 technology.
Multiple solutions proposed to supply a list of improvements and solutions, including the following measurement parameters for each of them:
- Electricity consumption/savings.
- NG consumption/savings.
- Thermal consumption/saving (biomass, etc.).
- Preliminary CAPEX.
