SENER and MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA reach an agreement to collaborate on developing technology and managing talent10/02/2017 (Spain)
SENER and MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA today signed a framework partnership agreement to work together on research projects and technology transfer, continuing education and training, the training of young engineers, and attracting talent. The agreement is initially for a period of four years, which may be renewable automatically.
In practice, the agreement will see the two organizations working together on: technological research and knowledge transfer to develop technologies relevant to SENER’s areas of activity; continuing education and training for technicians, specialists and other SENER employees; and the training of young engineers specializing in these technologies. For this last objective, through the alliance with MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA and its training of young engineers specializing in SENER’s activities and knowledge areas, the company is taking decisive steps to attract the talent that could go on to become its next generation.
The framework agreement was signed today by the Managing Director of SENER, Jorge Unda, and by the Rector of MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA, Vicente Atxa. This took place at the university’s Bilbao Berrikuntza Faktoria facilities, an ecosystem of learning, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Jorge Unda remarked “we’re hugely proud to sign this broadly ambitious agreement with MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA. SENER needs its people to maintain extremely high levels of training and professional competence. And we know that this is a base from which innovative ideas will grow – this being a company where our main competitive advantage worldwide is our technological differentiation”.
The Rector of MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA, Vicente Atxa, underscored that “bringing together research, transfer and learning is a natural way to work in partnership with companies. Thanks to this agreement, MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA students and SENER will now have an improved means of becoming more competitive and benefiting from better professionals”.
The creation of this agreement brings with it an opportunity to enhance the talent of SENER’s professionals. In this regard, Jorge Unda indicated “SENER sees this partnership as the clearest of opportunities to reinforce the natural talent it already has at its disposal, to integrate new knowledge and, ultimately, to enrich the careers of a great many people. As such, it represents a great chance to make an effective joint contribution to the improvement of our society.”
Meanwhile, Vicente Atxa emphasized that “MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA has enterprise in its DNA, so all its activities are aligned with the needs of business. The university wants to actively contribute to improving Basque competitiveness, and the best way to do this is by working with the best companies, a category that includes SENER, one of the top engineering firms in the Basque Country and Spain”.
To undertake the specific activities covered by the agreement (research, technological development, continuing education and training, and the managing of talent), the framework agreement comprises two partial collaboration agreements. The first of these will enable the start-up of a Research and Knowledge Transfer Program in partnership with the University’s Faculty of Engineering, making it possible to create a research team to train SENER’s researchers of the future for research in scientific and technological fields. The second will be an agreement aimed at continuing education and training for SENER professionals. This program will benefit from the participation of both the university’s Faculty of Engineering and its Faculty of Business Studies.
The agreement signed today has its roots in various research projects carried out under a contract signed by SENER and MONDRAGON UNIBERTSITATEA’S Faculty of Engineering, dating back over seven years. Over this time, both organizations have delivered R&D projects and doctoral theses in relation to SENER’s activities. Examples include new techniques for predictive maintenance in aerospace systems, the development of manufacturing technologies based on high temperature- and stress-resistant alloy deformation processes, and the design of electrical machinery for space applications.
